GLENN MURCUTT

Arquitecto australiano autor de una obra singular por su fidelidad simultánea a la herencia moderna y a la tradición autóctona australiana. Admirador de Chareau y Mies, de Neutra y las Caso Study Houses californianas, Murcutt ha hecho una particular síntesis de sus enseñanzas y de la herencia vernácula. Sus proyectos, casi todos domésticos, reúnen la Maison de Verre y la Casa Farnsworth con el refugio nómada aborigen y el cobertizo agrícola de los colonos del continente. Ligeras, funcionales y confortables, concebidas en función del entorno y el clima, las casas Marie Short house en Kempsey (1975), Baile-Eastway en Glenorie-Sidney (1983) o Magney house en Bingi Point (1984) se construyeron con técnicas conocidas por la mano de obra local y con materiales (madera, chapa o vidrio) de catálogo. La capacidad de Murcutt para distinguir entre lo necesario y lo accesorio, su vocación artesana y su sensibilidad paisajística se han mantenido intactas con el cambio de escala y de programa que ha supuesto el Centro de Arte de Riversdale (1999), su mayor proyecto hasta la fecha. El año 2002 recibió el premio Pritzker, máximo galardón del mundo de la arquitectura.
