GLENN MURCUTT

Arquitecte australià autor d’una obra singular per la seva fidelitat simultània a l’herència moderna i a la tradició autòctona australiana. Admirador de Chareau i Mies, de Neutra i les Caso Study Houses californianas, Murcutt ha fet una particular síntesi dels seus ensenyaments i de l’herència vernacla. Els seus projectes, gairebé tots domèstics, reuneixen la Maison de Verre i la Casa Farnsworth amb el refugi nòmada aborigen i el cobert agrícola dels colons del continent. Lleugeres, funcionals i confortables, concebudes en funció de l’entorn i el clima, les cases Marie Short house a Kempsey (1975), Baile-Eastway a Glenorie-Sidney (1983) o Magney house a Bingi Point (1984) es van construir amb tècniques conegudes per la mà d’obra local i amb materials (fusta, xapa o vidre) de catàleg. La capacitat de Murcutt per distingir entre el necessari i l’accessori, la seva vocació artesana i la seva sensibilitat paisatgística s’han mantingut intactes amb el canvi d’escala i de programa que ha suposat el Centre d’Art de Riversdale (1999), el seu major projecte fins a la data. L’any 2002 va rebre el premio Pritzker, màxim guardó del món de l’arquitectura.
